As author Jeffrey Marx points out, most pro football players aren’t exactly comfortable expressing their feelings. That’s especially true if those feelings include fear, panic, insecurity, and self-doubt.
Luckily, Jeffrey Marx does not profile just any pro football player for in new book, “The Long Snapper: A Second Chance, A Super Bowl, A Lesson For Life.”
Brian Kinchen doesn’t hold back when expressing his surprise at being called for a try-out with the New England Patriots, despite being a 38 year old Bible teacher who was 3 years out of the NFL. He doesn’t spare details when describing his personal terror just seven weeks later, when he was called on to snap the ball for a game winning field goal with just nine seconds left in Super Bowl 38.
Generally, fans don’t notice a football long snapper unless he makes a very big mistake. In that regard, Kinchen had a very successful 13 year career in the NFL. Hopefully, history will pay better attention to the story of his last few games.
