The Lingerie Football League
Here at Only A Game, we gave reporter Charlie Schroeder the extremely challenging assignment of covering the new Lingerie Football League. Here’s some footage he was able to capture while on assignment:

Me likee!
Doesn’t Bill Littlefield have daughters? Did they listen to and enjoy this segment? After years of enjoying Only A Game on Saturday mornings, frequently with my kids in range, I could not believe my ears today when I heard this story. First disbelief, then anger. How offensive was this? Let me count the ways…
The timing was beautiful, too…right after the listener letter asking why various random events were covered, while leaving out sports like cross country track. I wondered about that, too, particularly when I recalled the appalling bullfighting story of a couple of weeks ago. And that was before I heard today’s Lingerie Football story. What’s up? No longer interested in the female audience?
I can see that the humorousness, prudes have already started to have a conniption about this amusing piece of football fluff! — Powder Fluff?? It seems that there more “tight ends” off of the field than on it.
Maybe as a compromise, we can get the LFL to play one game per session in burkas.
I’m surprised by this story’s inclusion on Only a Game. While I have no doubt that the ladies engaging in Lingerie Football are working hard and playing the game, it seems unlikely that a league full of men playing in Speedos would warrant the same “this is really cool!” coverage given in the story. Was Mr. Schroeder’s interest in the league the football they play, or the “uniforms” they play it in?
My girls have a difficult enough time seeing their role in real sports, what with the marginalization of every female sport available and the constant influx of vapid cheerleaders in their undies, Viagra commercials at every timeout, and the marginalized role of women in sportscasting. Is it really necessary for OAG to add to that with coverage of a sport that wouldn’t exist or draw a crowd if it wasn’t for what the participants aren’t wearing?
(FYI, J. Buell, “humorousness is defined as “the quality of being laughable or comical”)
Once again NPR has opened my eyes to something I’ve never known about. Personally, I think it’s GREAT! Thanks for the all-inclusive, objective reporting.
Geesh. Lighten up, folks.
