The NBA and NHL are both experimenting with outdoor regular season games. As Bill Littlefield comments, they may not exactly be returning to the roots of their sports, but the open air contests can still be fun to watch.

The NHL is back. Heck of a July story, eh? Now fans must to unlearn what the NHL has so patiently taught them: namely, that they can live without hockey.

Maybe someday an insider will write a book about how the NHL became the first pro aggregation in which the players and the owners argued their way out of a season.
